Orthodontics Q&A

What is orthodontics care?

Orthodontics is a cosmetic dental treatment that uses braces or clear plastic aligners to move your teeth into a desirable position in your mouth. It’s the best way to have a gorgeous, functional smile if your teeth are crooked or you have an uncomfortable bite.

Invisalign

Invisalign uses smooth, clear, comfortable aligners to shift your teeth into their new alignment over time.

Braces

Braces use metal brackets and wires to move crooked teeth into the desired position and achieve a gorgeous smile.

What are the benefits of orthodontics treatments?

The benefits of undergoing orthodontics care at Elmora Dental include:

  • No pain with chewing
  • Easier teeth cleaning
  • Improved bite
  • Beautiful smile
  • Low risk of oral health problems

Beautiful teeth dramatically improve your smile and may help you gain the self-confidence you deserve.

Is orthodontics care right for me?

The Elmora Dental team reviews your oral health history, takes dental X-rays when necessary, and examines your gums and teeth. They ask about your treatment preferences and desired results before tailoring a treatment that matches your personalized needs.

Depending on your unique situation and age, you may be best suited for Invisalign, braces, or either of these treatments.

What should I expect during orthodontics treatment?

What you can expect during orthodontics treatment depends on the type of treatment you choose.

If you’re a candidate for Invisalign, your dentist digitally scans your mouth to develop custom-fitted clear aligners. When they’re ready for use, you wear the aligners in your mouth all day and at night except when you brush your teeth, floss, and eat. Every one to two weeks, switch to another set of aligners until you finish treatment.

When receiving braces, your dentist uses dental adhesive to bond brackets to your teeth and connects them using a metal wire. Your dentist periodically tightens the wires to continue moving your teeth into an ideal alignment.

Your orthodontics treatment may take just six months, up to 18 months, or longer. Your dentist gives you a better idea of what to expect during treatment. Afterward, you may need to wear a retainer to keep your teeth in their new position for a lifetime.
